THE LOOKS: NYFW 2019

New York Fashion Week was a whirlwind. I made some new friends, took some bomb ootd photos and a new pair of shoes climbed the hierarchy of my heart. With so many shows and events back to back, my new favorite footwear---a pair of platform Air Force 1's---made it easy for the ‘ripping and running’ that comes along with fashion week. See my agenda below and what I wore each day.

DAY 1: I kicked off NYFW at Spring Studios where I attended ThreeGunn, I-Am-Chen, and Rizhou runway shows. I stopped for a manicure in between shows & wore this easy breezy dress with my sneakers because comfort is always key. The dress has pockets, so I knew the day was going to be a good day.

I ended the day so glad I didn’t return these shoes. I definitely considered after contemplating rather they made my feet look too big.

DAY 2: Essence Fashion house was the only thing on my radar when I woke up this morning. However, my agenda morphed into a daylong of festivities. After witnessing Essence Fashion House, I went to the ShopBop pop-up shop preview followed by the Affair runway show at Spring Studios. For this look, I tried a fall approach to print blocking. I wore a zebra printed top from H&M and a pair of green leopard print shorts from ZARA. I adorned the look with a crocodile textured cross-body bag, a cream blazer, and a pair of white kitten heel mules.

I ended the day feeling like my life was aligned. I’m not sure what that means, but I rarely feel like I’m in the right place, at the right time, wearing the right outfit lol. I felt that today and I’m holding on to that feeling.

DAY 3: My favorite person, Nick Linson, made his way from Cali to NY to celebrate life with me & we painted the town red. I started the day off at Taoray Wang. We ended up arriving late and missing the show, so I utilized my free time wisely—posing curbside with someone’s pink Vespa. I shot off to Times Square to attend the Sheen Magazine cover launch celebration. Soon after, I headed to The Delancey to cover the AVNU “For the Culture” day party. For the first half of the day, I wore summer’s biggest trend: neon. I paired a textured green thrifted top with a neon midi knit skirt from Missguided. I accessorized by wearing an H&M snake printed belt and a white cape blazer. My Air Force 1's made another appearance making this look functional, forward, and fun. Later that night, I attended the Chromat Fashion Show, which was epic. I ended the night at the Christopher John Roger’s afterparty and got some killer content in The Standard’s elevator. Check out the shots and video below. I mean, if you’re not taking a moment to have some fun in all of the fashion week chaos, what are you even doing?! I wore a satin corset from Victoria’s Secret and paired it with low rise cargo pants pulled from Nick’s suitcase. Yes, a pair of men’s cargo pants made me feel better than any badass heel or dare I say it, a red lip, ever could. So needless to say, I’ll be wearing them throughout fall and into winter. I took it up a notch by pairing it with a black Vince Camuto heel and a checked print blazer.

I ended the day feeling grateful for my metro card. Yes, Fashion week is glamorous, but the efficiency (and cost) of a subway ride beats taking an Uber, particularly when you’re in a rush.

Day 4: I kicked off the Day at the Fashion Palette Australian show at Pier 59. I did a backstage interview with Sonya, the designer of Sonya Swim and the founder of the Fashion Palette. Soon after, Nick and I made our way back to Brooklyn for Pyer Moss—the best show of fashion week. Hands down. You can imagine at this point I was past the point of exhaustion and my feet were jealous of my hands. That’s why I opted for my shoe of choice once again. G-Nikes baby! I wore them this time with a wide-leg pair of black pants, a white turtleneck, and a powder blue blazer. I added blue frames and yellow earrings to top it off—and to emit major 90’s R&B feels. The Tony Braxton haircut set it off.

I ended the day feeling fulfilled because I was able to witness the magic that is Pyer Moss.

DAY 5: The next day was the Orange Culture fashion show, followed by a Thai dinner and the Telfar after party. I wore a high-neck mesh top and a lace-up corset on top. I paired it with a pair of metallic menswear pants. The obsession continues. I styled my look with a lunch bag leather clutch and a pair of heels.

I ended the day grateful I’d packed a pair of flats in my bag—she’s a smart cookie. 😉

DAY 6: I attended the BooHoo NYFW event at the Rose Mansion. Free tacos and free rose all night? I’ll take it. I ended the night at The Crown, celebrating the C1V1L by Slick Woods X NYNY party with some of my favorite people.

I ended the night just the way I like it; in my bed, eating a breakfast wrap from the deli.

Fashion Month is now over and while I didn’t make my way to Paris, London, or Milan, I kept my eyes on the runways to spot any major up and coming trends for spring. I rounded up some of my favorite top trends here.
