I love spending time at home but during the holidays I’m not sure if that’s where I want to be. Christmas is a social holiday, and I love all of the festivities & fun that comes along with it. Now with covid on a rise again it seems like home is our only option for celebrating Christmas this season. Yes, We typically spend holidays at home enjoying the company of family. But this year is different. So many Christmas-centric activities have been put to a halt! And it’s kind of sad. There’s no bonfires to attend, no Christmas light shows, no theatre, ice skating, ugly Christmas sweater parties, charity events, galas, Christmas dance recitals, and no office holiday parties. I’m reluctant to say this, but I’m even going to miss the corny gift exchanges. “Home for the Holidays” has a completely different meaning than it did in previous years and there’s not much we can do about it.
While there’s plenty of reasons to feel limited with your Christmas fun, there’s always a way to make the most of what you’ve got. Here’s what I’m doing to stay calm and in good spirits at home this holiday season.
WHERE'S THE WINE! - Pour yourself a libation & When you finish that one pour another. Drink up.
PLAY SOME GAMES - one of my favorite parts of the holiday season is playing games with friends and family. So, play some virtual games this season if you’re not with who you want to be with. Most card games have their virtual equivalent. Have an UNO tournament with a group of friends or play another card game. Add some drinking provisions in there for extra fun.
DRESS UP - Festive attire is literally the best part about the holidays, rather you’re wearing red, a cute sweater, a seasonal onesie or your favorite pair of X-mas socks, put something festive on. I love this red onesie! I even put on some jewelry to lounge around in since they haven’t been well utilized due to covid this year. Also it’s a holiday you’re not near your loved ones and you’re bound to get some holiday FaceTime calls. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.
MAKE A DISH - Cooking is relaxing and fun if you’re trying a new recipe. Bake yourself something nice or make your favorite dish. And eat as many servings as you’d like...you deserve!
PLAY MIXOLOGIST - Again, pour it up! If you’re not a wine drinker, get a Christmas cocktail recipe and make a festive drink. You can make a mocktail too (but, why would you do that?), just sip on something you wouldn’t typically drink. You know, it makes ya feel a lil fancy.😉
HOLIDAY X-MAS PLAYLIST - Que Destiny’s Child 8 days of Xmas album. It’s a hit through and through! There’s so many good Xmas playlists out there though, just search your music streaming app, and turn it up.
CALL YOUR GRANDPARENTS - They miss you right now especially, they really do. So spread some Xmas joy and call them up! It’ll make you feel better too I promise.
GIFT SOMEONE - Do you know anyone spending the holiday alone? Send them some pie via Uber eats! Or schedule a lil care package that’ll arrive just in time for New Years! Do something nice for someone else.
GET OUTSIDE - rather you’re sitting by the fire pit or playing in snow outside, just get outside. You need real outside air, baby.
My body suit is from Immodel and the earrings are from the hair store, they have the cutest accessories! The fur slippers are from Target and the glow I can only attribute to the most wonderful time of the year that is Christmas.
