I’m not even going to add one of those lengthy intros to this because we all know it’s hard out here in these streets. We are all trying to maintain mental health and stay far away from this virus. So, here are the 11 ways I’m staying sane with Rona on the loose.
Going for a Jog or Walk Everyday – I sit inside from 9-5 due to work. So once my shift is over, I’m dying for an escape. I make it a point to go for a walk after work. Sometimes, when I don’t feel like walking, I literally go outside in the sun and just lie there because if there’s one thing New York has taught me, it’s that I need the sun, wind, and trees. I’m glad to see Mother Nature getting a break from us though.
Listening to Podcasts – Rather I’m listening for a good keke or a motivational word, podcasts have been saving my sanity. Some of my favorites are Black Girl Bravado, Oprah’s Super Soul, Transformation Church Podcast, Small Doses, and Yes, Girl! Tap into these and thank me later.
Tabitha Brown’s Instagram - I've been seriously trying to limit my intake of social media because I don’t think it is making any of this better outside of making me laugh on occasion and reminding me that we are all in this together. But, one reason I’m still tapped in is because of Social Media Personality and Vegan Auntie, Tabitha Brown. She is bliss in human form. She is authenticity in a sea of assimilating. And I stan her content and southern accent. What did we do to deserve her?
Distancing Myself - from anything and anyone that brings the bad energy. Yes, I’m referring to the toxic people who project their fears instead of dealing with them. We are all going through this together, it’s stressful, unpredictable, and scary for ALL OF US. Someone else’s stress is not your burden to carry. Take it elsewhere because my peace will be maintained at all costs. Know your boundaries, set them, and stick to them. In the words of Mrs. Tabitha Brown, “Have a good day! But, if you can’t, don’t you dare go messing up anyone else’s!”
With that being said, I’ve also been limiting my intake of social media and news. More importantly, making sure I’m watching and reading credible sources so you know what’s really going on. I’ve been trying to cleanse myself of social media every other day and only watching the news in the mornings. Sometimes I skip watching all together and ask my parents for the highlights.
Yoga and Stretching - I was never a yoga girl, but I’ve always wanted to be. I hold so much tension in my hips and back area, so my body feels such a release after stretching. And when I tap into my “Soothing” playlist it’s even more relaxing.
Surrounding Myself with People I Love. This is more challenging while social distancing, but your loved ones are only a FaceTime call away. It’s been a blessing to be able to social distance with my family. My sister and I have been bonding over the most random things and doing everything together. She’s been a blessing too with helping me to document my WFH looks and create some quarantine content.
Cooking – Okay I haven’t been cooking that often, but when I do, it’s such an event lol it’s like doing arts and crafts. I bake and cook for my family which is nice. In New York I would cook a bunch of food and meal prep for the week, so many people really couldn’t taste my dishes. Now I have an audience and some food critics. So this is fun.
Staying Creative – I don’t know what this is about. I’m not sure if it’s because my mind feels more at peace or more creative here, but I’ve been getting so many ideas for content, products, and editorials. I feel so revived right now, it’s odd. I haven’t felt this naturally creative in a while. So I’ve been trying to stay inspired as much as possible. I re-decorated our office, painted my bathroom, and I’ve been exploring and building on ideas.
Fruits & Veggies – I forgot to mention that my family is vegan! So with that, there’s a ton of healthy foods in the house which make snaking feel less detrimental to my summer body lol.
Snacking – But let’s be real, the junk food and comfort food has been finding its way into my diet too. Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, flavored popcorn, Hot Cheetos, and egg rolls. All of these snacks have been making me feel comfort on the less-lively days.
Getting Dressed - The past few weeks have been so unpredictable. At first, it was cool. I would wake up, roll out of bed and work in my pajamas. But now, the only thing that's keeping me motivated to go to work is getting dressed for it. I didn't realize that getting dressed was such an important part of my day until recently. It changes the way that I feel about myself and my work for sure. So needless to say, the WFH slay has been fully tapped into!
I hope some of what’s keeping me sane will help you too! Now, this will forever be a fashion blog, so let’s get into these looks. I only packed a carry-on to come home, so most of the lounge wear I’m wearing I pulled from my high school and college wardrobe! Which is still here at my home in Louisiana. I knew all the shopping I did back then would benefit me one day. I didn’t realize how much lounge wear I owned until now though. Get in to some of my favorite work from home looks below and let me know what you think! I will up load more looks as we continue this journey staying home.
